Solid Rock Garden Mission
Mission/Purpose:
To provide an opportunity to grow and enjoy fresh produce for people in our community who are in need and might otherwise go without.
The Name:
In November of 2010 the garden plot was first plowed and up came tons of river rock, no really…18 tons to be exact! Ouch!!! We began thinking of an appropriate name for the garden and just couldn’t get “rock” out of our minds! Thus the name The Solid Rock Garden. There are many great scriptures which refer to the “Rock”.
There are also the scriptural references referring to the Solid Rock Garden; “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25
“He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge.” Psalms 62:6-7
The SRG started as a benevolent garden, distributing produce through several local food banks and organizations. In 2021, the garden began a transition to become a community garden with many neighbors sharing space and resources to grow food and fellowship in NW Boise. If you are interested in gardening in 2024, you can contact the church for an application. castlehills.office@gmail.com
